The Irish Roots of Halloween

22nd Oct 2025

Miss Wylie’s Primary Seven girls had a great afternoon learning about the Irish roots of Halloween and the festival Samhain, which originated in Ireland over 2000 years ago. The girls were particularly interested in traditions such as baking barmbrack fortune telling bread and discovered that bobbing for apples was a tradition back then. The girls learnt that there are lots of activities we still do at Halloween today. As a treat for working so hard the girls then made their own ghostly biscuits to enjoy when they went home.
