Internet Safety Week
As part of Internet Safety Week, we explored the big question: “Should social media be banned for under 16s”? We started by reading an article from the Irish News Young Readers Programme, which helped spark lots of discussion about the benefits and dangers of being online. The girls also watched a BBC news round segment to hear other young people’s views on the headline. After debating the issue as a whole class, we worked in small groups to design our own ideas for a safer social media, then created posters showing the risks children can face online and better alternatives to the full ban. Next week, we will present our designs to the rest of our class, with our own scripts, acting as government officials who want to share their ideas for a safer online world for everyone.
